Artist's Statement: I began my career in illustration and graphic design and I was privileged to study under such great artist/illustrators as the late Henry Koerner and Flavia Zortea. After working for a short time in this field, I went on to receive my teaching degree in art education. Each of these paths have merged in order to carve out the artist that I am today. My work is detailed and as a general rule shows rich, well defined coloring. These are tendencies left over from the days working in advertising. In contrast, my themes are deeply rooted in the days I spent teaching. I find myself drawn to the beauty of Japanese art and the influences it had in the Art Nouveau movement of the 1800's. I believe that the majority of my works reflect this, if not directly in the theme than in their strong organic movement.
Accomplishments: While I received awards and recognition during my time at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and then later at both West Virginia University and the Ohio state University, I took a number of years off to raise two wonderful children. More recently, I have started to display again and have sold a number of paintings in the central Ohio area. I am a new member of the Westerville Art League but look forward to taking a more active role in our art community.
